Abstract:
MediaTek officially released the new Dimensity CX C10 Max processor and announced that it will become one of the important core hardware of Google's new Googlebook notebook platform. As the first member of the Dimensity CX product family, this chip is positioned by MediaTek as the flagship product of the new generation AI PC platform, hoping to further expand its computing market territory beyond mobile devices.
According to information released by MediaTek, Dimensity CX C10 Max is manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process and is equipped with an eight-core CPU, an 11-core GPU and an eighth-generation NPU 890 artificial intelligence processor. The local AI computing power can reach up to 55 TOPS and will support artificial intelligence functions such as Google Gemini Intelligence. MediaTek said that the platform can meet the needs of various application scenarios such as productivity, multi-tasking, entertainment and smart assistants, while taking into account thin and light design and all-day battery life.
It is worth noting that the Dimensity CX series is positioned by MediaTek between the traditional Chromebook platform and higher-end AI computing devices. The company calls it the "Dimensity Compute Experiences (CX)" series and hopes to enter the AI-first notebook market with the new product category of Googlebook.
However, judging from the currently disclosed specifications, the Dimensity CX C10 Max has a lot of similarities with the Kompanio Ultra 910 previously launched by MediaTek.
In terms of CPU architecture, CX C10 Max adopts the so-called "All Big Core" all-big core design, but it is not actually eight identical cores, but consists of one Arm Cortex-X925, three Cortex-X4 and four Cortex-A720. This core combination is highly consistent with MediaTek’s previous configuration for the Dimensity 9400 series smartphone chips and the Kompanio Ultra 910 platform.
The graphics part also has no significant changes. CX C10 Max continues to use Arm Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU and is equipped with the same NPU 890 artificial intelligence engine as Kompanio Ultra. In addition, both chips also have 12MB L3 cache and 10MB system-level cache.
Judging from public information, the most obvious upgrade is mainly focused on memory support capabilities. Although both support LPDDR5X memory, the CX C10 Max can support a maximum speed of 9600MT/s, while the Kompanio Ultra 910 can support a maximum speed of 8533MT/s.
Since a large number of key hardware configurations are basically the same as the previous generation products, it has also triggered discussions about its "new platform" positioning. Many industry insiders believe that although MediaTek describes the CX series as an important step in improving its computing product portfolio, from a hardware structure perspective, it is more like an evolved version of the Kompanio Ultra platform rather than a completely new design.
In addition to the processor itself, MediaTek also emphasized the important position of AI capabilities in the Googlebook ecosystem. NPU 890 can provide up to 55 TOPS local AI performance and support more device-side Gemini functions, thereby improving response speed and reducing privacy concerns caused by reliance on cloud computing.
In terms of imaging, CX C10 Max integrates the Imagiq 1090 image signal processor, supports up to 32-megapixel cameras, and can achieve HDR video recording, smart zoom, continuous autofocus, and AI-enhanced video call experience.
Wireless connections have also reached the current mainstream level. The platform supports Wi-Fi 7 networks with a maximum rate of 7.3Gbps and dual-engine Bluetooth 6.0 technology to meet the needs of future AI notebooks for high-speed connections and low-latency communications.
Googlebook is considered to be an important platform for Google to promote further integration of Android and ChromeOS in the future. Compared with traditional Chromebooks, Googlebooks will adopt a deeper Android technology stack and build a unified ecosystem around the Gemini artificial intelligence experience. In addition to MediaTek, Intel and Qualcomm will also provide corresponding processor products for Googlebook in the future.
MediaTek said that the Dimensity CX C10 Max will be launched simultaneously with the Googlebook and will be the first to enter a high-end ultra-portable device with an unnamed name. However, the official has not yet disclosed the specific manufacturer, price and detailed launch plan.
As artificial intelligence functions gradually become an important selling point of notebook computers, MediaTek hopes to further expand its influence in the computing field with the Dimensity CX series. However, judging from the current specifications, whether this new processor can truly change the market structure remains to be verified by the actual performance of Googlebook products after they are officially launched.
