Abstract:
Meta officially announced two new generative artificial intelligence game development tools, "Horizon Create" and "Horizon Studio". It hopes to completely lower the threshold of game development through natural language generation technology, allowing ordinary users to create and publish practical game works without programming experience.

According to Meta, both tools are built on the Meta Horizon Engine platform and can automatically generate complete 2D or 3D games based on text descriptions input by users. Compared with the traditional game development process, users do not need to learn complex software tools or master professional programming knowledge. They only need to describe the game content they want to create, and the system will start building the corresponding works.
Among them, Horizon Create is an application for mobile devices, focusing on creating anytime and anywhere. After users open the app, they can directly use natural language to describe the game content they want to create, and then AI will automatically generate the corresponding playable works.
Another product, Horizon Studio, runs in the browser and provides richer and more sophisticated editing capabilities than the mobile version. Developers can further adjust game difficulty, art style, mission progression, growth system, and various gameplay details to gain a higher degree of creative freedom.

Saxs Persson, Vice President of Meta Horizon, said that the goal of the new platform is not to help users create concept sketches or prototypes, but to truly create game content with complete gameplay depth. According to his description, users only need to put forward ideas, and the system will help build the game world; subsequent modifications to the environment, changing characters, adding tasks, designing new levels, or adjusting difficulty can all be completed through new text instructions.
Meta hopes to transform the game development process into a natural conversational experience in this way. The design, modeling, programming and debugging work that used to require a lot of time investment will gradually be completed by AI, while creators will be more responsible for proposing ideas and adjusting directions.
At the same time, Meta has also designed a complete content distribution system for these two tools.
Games produced through Horizon Create and Horizon Studio can be published directly to the Meta ecosystem and connected to platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. This means that creators can not only generate games, but also immediately reach Meta's existing large user base.
In fact, Meta has been preparing for this plan for some time. In August this year, data miners discovered code and functional clues related to "Horizon Create" in the Meta Horizon application. At that time, there were also signs that some mobile game content would be migrated to new platforms in the future.

However, although Meta has officially announced related products, the outside world is still unable to accurately assess the true quality of these AI-generated games.
Meta has not yet demonstrated a large number of complete examples, so it is unclear how complex the generated works can be, or how competitive they will be compared to games produced by traditional development teams. Issues such as gameplay depth, long-term playability, and content originality remain to be further observed.
In addition, Meta has not announced a large-scale opening schedule for the two tools. The company only confirmed that Horizon Create is a mobile app, while Horizon Studio is a web-based platform, but it has not disclosed specific device requirements or official launch time.
Analysts believe that this plan is an important part of Meta's efforts to promote the popularization of AI creation tools. In the past few years, generative AI has gradually entered the fields of text, image, video and music creation, and games are considered to be an important target in the next stage. Compared with the traditional game production method, which often takes months or even years to develop, the model of directly generating playable games using natural language is expected to significantly reduce creation costs and attract more ordinary users to participate in content production.
With the official debut of Horizon Create and Horizon Studio, Meta is trying to transform game development from a professional skill to a mass creation behavior. If the technology eventually reaches the level expected, creating a game in the future may be as easy as generating an image or writing a piece of text today.
