Abstract:
Mozilla recently released the Firefox 157 Beta version. The new version continues to improve media playback, web development capabilities, and browser interfaces. Firefox 157 has now entered the beta testing stage, and the official version is expected to be launched at the end of September.
Firefox 157 is optimized for HDR video playback and can better handle HDR videos encoded in an 8-bit color format, resulting in a more accurate display when playing this type of content. This improvement is mainly aimed at display problems that may occur in some HDR videos due to encoding format limitations, allowing browsers to have better compatibility when processing different video formats.
The new version also improves the audio and video synchronization problem of HTML media elements when changing the playback speed. When users adjust the playback speed of web videos or other HTML media content, Firefox 157 can better maintain the synchronization between sound and images, reducing the possible out-of-sync between audio and video after adjusting the speed.
For the browser interface, Firefox 157 fixes an issue with vertical tab sidebars that appeared under certain circumstances. Vertical tabs are one of the interface features that Firefox has continued to promote in recent years. It can move the traditional tabs at the top to the sidebar, thereby providing a more intuitive management method for users with a large number of tabs.
Firefox 157 also continues to advance the Nova UI design being developed by Mozilla. What's particularly noteworthy about this update is that Mozilla has reintroduced the compact mode option that was previously canceled. Compact mode can reduce the space occupied by various elements in the browser interface, so that tabs, toolbars, and other browser controls can be arranged in a more dense manner, thereby providing users with a larger web page display area.
In terms of developer-oriented features, Firefox 157 Beta adds support for the at-rule() function in CSS @supports rules. This feature allows web developers to more flexibly detect whether the browser supports specific CSS rules or at-rules, and then decide whether to enable the corresponding style based on the browser's capabilities.
At the same time, the new version also supports the "chain" value of the CSS overscroll-behavior attribute. This attribute is used to control whether the scrolling operation continues to be passed to other scrollable areas after the user scrolls the web page content and reaches the boundary. The new support can provide web developers with more detailed control of scrolling behavior.
