Musk says TSMC will not operate Terafab artificial intelligence chip factory complex

📅 2026-10-07

Abstract:

Terafab is a project planned by Tesla and SpaceX in Texas. The goal is to build a "giant chip factory" for the production of artificial intelligence chips. Some netizens posted on the X platform that the factory is most likely to be owned and operated by TSMC. Musk responded to this post and wrote: "No, the factory will be built and operated by us. There is no doubt about that."

He added: "If TSMC is interested, it may be able to sublease part of Terafab's factory area, but that's it."

Musk said last week that the two parties had discussed potential cooperation on the Terafab project, but did not disclose more details.

Earlier on Wednesday, Intel CEO Chen Liwu said that as a partner in the project, the American chip company will continue to participate.

Musk is selecting a partner for this chip manufacturing project. Once TSMC participates, it may affect Intel's position in the Terafab project.
