OpenAI fires three researchers for improperly sharing sensitive information

📅 2026-10-02

Abstract:

OpenAI terminated the employment relationship of three employees for violating regulations on handling non-public information, accusing them of leaking secrets to the outside world. "Our investigation confirmed that these individuals failed to follow the company's established procedures, improperly handled sensitive information, violated our policies, and violated the trust that is critical to our work," a company spokesman said in a statement Thursday.

A person familiar with the matter, who did not want to be identified publicly, revealed that the employees involved were two security researchers and a research project manager, who were accused of leaking sensitive company information to an external artificial intelligence evaluation agency. The person said that some of the allegedly leaked information involves OpenAI’s infrastructure.
