Competition in the browser market is becoming increasingly fierce, and each manufacturer is attracting users with new features. As many browsers continue to add AI features, Opera has chosen a different development route and launched a new service that is quite rare in the browser field: travel eSIM.
Following the free VPN feature released not long ago, Opera announced that it will integrate the travel eSIM service in the Android version of Opera browser. Users can complete the activation and management of eSIM directly in the browser without downloading an additional dedicated eSIM application. At the same time, Opera also launched a free trial event for some markets. Qualified users can get 3GB of free mobile data traffic, which is valid for three days.
Although the entire activation process is completed in the Opera browser, eSIM itself is not limited to browser use. Once installed, this eSIM can provide mobile data connections for all applications on the device, including maps, instant messaging software, and other programs that require the Internet. Opera said the service currently covers 47 destinations and will access 5G networks with local operator support.
Opera emphasizes that there is no need to bind payment information or provide an email address to receive 3GB of free traffic. Users in eligible regions can claim it directly within the Opera app. After the free traffic is used up, users can choose a paid package to continue using it. Three capacity plans of 3GB, 5GB and 10GB are available. The package is valid for 30 days from the date of activation.
In terms of usage, Opera provides high flexibility. Users can install an eSIM at home before departure, but only activate their data plan after arriving at their destination. The same eSIM after installation can be reused in multiple countries and regions, but each time you travel to a new country or region, you still need to purchase the corresponding data package separately.
Currently, this feature is only available in the Android version of the Opera browser. User devices must support eSIM and be running Android 10 or higher. The data packages provided by Opera only include mobile data services and will not replace or replace users' existing mobile phone numbers and voice communication functions.
The first markets where you can receive 3GB of free data include the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Poland. The eSIM purchase service is open to users around the world.

It is unusual for browser products to offer travel eSIM services directly. However, for users who frequently travel abroad and lack fixed eSIM purchase channels, Opera hopes to integrate network connection services directly into the browser, so that users can obtain a more convenient one-stop experience when surfing the Internet overseas.
