Abstract:
More than 85% of Japanese game developers are now using generative AI. According to the latest data released by CESA around the 2026 Tokyo Game Show, 85.8% of Japanese game developers surveyed used generative AI. This is a significant increase from 51% in 2025.

Among the respondents, 63% use it every day, while another 22.8% use it occasionally. The survey covered companies such as Capcom, Sega, Konami and Level-5.
Developers say that AI helps them save time, speed up development and reduce costs. At the same time, many companies retain human review mechanisms, limit the AI tools that can be used, and avoid putting AI-generated material directly into the final game.
Last year, some of the most common uses included art and image creation, writing, programming support, and internal game engine work.
