Abstract:
The open source operating system ReactOS has made important progress in file system support. The project team recently announced that its self-developed NTFS file system driver has matured enough to support the installation and actual operation of ReactOS. At the same time, the driver now also has the ability to format NTFS partitions.

This is seen as an important milestone for the ReactOS project, which has long aimed to be compatible with the Windows NT architecture. With the NTFS driver reaching a level where it can be used to install and run a system, the project is one step closer to the long-awaited beta test release.
ReactOS officials released news through social platforms that day, confirming that this goal has been achieved and stating that the NTFS driver has reached a higher level of maturity in handling ReactOS installation tasks.
However, the development team also reminds that this driver still has some unfinished functions. Currently, the NTFS driver still lacks a caching mechanism, so performance is still slower than other NTFS drivers or platforms. In addition, the logging function and security mechanism support have not yet been implemented, and developers also stated that there may still be undiscovered flaws and problems in the system.

Nevertheless, this achievement is still considered an important breakthrough in the development of ReactOS and another significant achievement after the project continues to make multiple technical advances in 2026. As the core file system capabilities continue to improve, ReactOS is gradually improving its stability and practicality, and steadily advancing towards a more mature version stage.
