This week, the Roblox Developer Conference is being held. This massive user-generated content platform has announced a number of initiatives aimed at allowing its games to reach more players and significantly increase user engagement and business growth. But just last night, during the keynote speech by company co-founder and CEO David Baszucci, all eyes were briefly focused on a Roblox vlogger named Emathiio who rushed to the stage to make a statement on child safety issues.
A video shared by Roblox user BearPuppyRBX on the He was then quickly tackled and subdued by a suspected security guard and two stagehands.
Baszuchi tried to stay calm and defuse the emergency with jokes. "Thank you very much for coming," he said. "As you just saw, every time RDC is held, everyone gets a little excited."
Afterwards, Emathiio posted a YouTube video explaining his actions. He said that he wanted to speak for all the children affected by the platform, who did not have the opportunity to express their demands on the stage of activities such as RDC. "Everyone says they don't want AI, everyone says they don't want those faces to be changed beyond recognition, and everyone wants to improve children's safety. No one wants the platform to cater to investors blindly. But every year that progress slows down, more children will be truly affected."
He responded to critics in the second half of the video: "You can say whatever you want to me to gain attention, I really don't care. I don't expect everyone to agree or support my approach. I didn't want to disturb RDC, nor did I want to spoil anyone's interest. I just wanted to say out loud what everyone has been holding back for several years."
Although Emathiio did not clearly state which aspect of Roblox's child safety measures he was protesting against, the company is currently under investigation by the U.S. Senate over issues such as how well the platform protects minors and whether it has taken effective measures to prevent people from using Roblox to lure or exploit children. The company has introduced stricter parental controls and age locks in response to concerns. Still, lawsuits from some parents and multiple states have kept child safety issues in the public eye.
And Roblox’s series of overturned interviews only added fuel to the fire. In a 2025 interview with the New York Times' "Hard Fork" podcast, Baszucci appeared dismissive of criticism of child safety and even seriously considered introducing gambling mechanics into Roblox, calling the idea "brilliant." In an interview with Vulture earlier this year, Dr. Elisabeth Milovidov, Roblox’s children’s rights advisor, seemed to emphasize that parents need to take more responsibility to prevent their children from encountering criminals on Roblox.
In addition, there is an ongoing wrongful death lawsuit stemming from the subsequent suicide of a 13-year-old platform user. Roblox has applied to transfer the case to arbitration instead of a full court hearing on the grounds that "the user created a Roblox account, accepted Roblox Terms of Service updates six times, used and redeemed Roblox gift cards twice, and purchased virtual currency within the platform nineteen times."
Children deserve better – there is nothing controversial about this statement. In my opinion, it should also be uncontroversial that even if a child agrees to Roblox’s terms of service, which the current terms state to the contrary, they are entitled to a full court hearing, and this right should not be taken away even after death.
