Abstract:

Samsung Display reportedly plans to start mass production of AMOLED panels for the Galaxy S27 series starting this month. South Korea's ZDNet quoted people in the parts industry as saying that Samsung has started producing some S27 series parts last month, and related production is expected to further accelerate in mid-October. This does not mean that the mobile phone will be launched this year; panels are expected to be stocked from the end of this year to next year for mobile phone assembly, and the S27 series is still considered likely to be released in early 2027.

According to reports, Samsung Display has set an annual panel shipment target of approximately 47 million to 48 million units for the S27 series, which is at least 10% higher than the Galaxy S26 series’ target of approximately 40 million units. Newly added models may be an important reason for the growth in shipments. The rumored S27 series will include the standard version, S27+, S27 Pro and S27 Ultra, with screen sizes of approximately 6.27 inches, 6.66 inches, 6.47 inches and 6.89 inches respectively; these models and sizes are not currently officially announced by Samsung.

Industry sources said that Samsung Display plans to produce about 2 million to 3 million screens for the newly added S27 Pro before the end of this year, and ship about 4 million to 5 million screens next year. The numbers here refer to panel production and shipment targets, and do not represent mobile phone sales or launch numbers. According to reports, Samsung also plans to expand the privacy display function from the S26 Ultra to the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra; this technology can limit others from seeing the screen content from the side, which is also still a product planning rumor.

Other Korean media previously reported that the S27 Pro and S27 Ultra may use a new generation of M16 OLED panels, while the standard version and S27+ may use M14 panels. Rumor has it that the M16 has improved in terms of brightness, energy efficiency, longevity and color performance. However, Samsung has not announced the complete parameters such as panel generation, resolution, refresh rate or brightness of the S27 series screens. Therefore, the panel specifications displayed by other models cannot be directly regarded as the confirmed configuration of the S27.

Expanding product lines may also be related to market competition. South Korea's ZDNet pointed out that Apple plans to launch iPhone 18 standard version, Air and e models in the first half of 2027, and Samsung reportedly hopes to cover more price and size ranges with four flagship phones. The report also mentioned that rising memory prices are squeezing the profits of the smartphone business. Samsung may let the S27 series use some parts of the S26 to control costs, which may also affect the orders and profits of supply chain manufacturers.
