Abstract:

The new design and color matching details of Samsung’s new generation item tracker Galaxy SmartTag 3 have been fully exposed online. Judging from the leaked product renderings and design sketches, Samsung has completely subverted the slender pill-shaped shape of the previous generation product and adopted a rounded rectangular (Squircle) design. It is available in black and white classic colors for the first time. However, at the same time, the new body is suspected to have removed its own physical lanyard hole, which means that users may need to purchase additional protective cover accessories when hanging keys or carry-on luggage.

Since the release of the first-generation Galaxy SmartTag in 2021, Samsung has been exploring the optimal form of smart anti-lost trackers. The first-generation product adopted a rounded diamond shape with a small hanging hole, while the SmartTag 2 launched in 2023 radically changed to a slender capsule shape, and designed a large-size metal ring hanging hole on the top, making it convenient for users to directly attach a key ring or backpack hook out of the box. It has been widely praised by pragmatic users. However, the latest SmartTag 3 once again ushered in a major change in form. The overall line height is close to the rounded rectangular geometric style of Samsung’s One UI system icon and Galaxy smart watch, making it visually smaller, more refined and integrated.

The rendering shows that the Galaxy SmartTag 3 has reintroduced a circular physical button in the center of the fuselage, and is expected to be equipped with a ring-shaped LED status indicator around it. Users can single-press the button to reversely search for the bound Galaxy phone. Double-click or long-press to customize the linkage "Modes & Routines" on the mobile phone to quickly control smart home and other automated operations; the indicator light can provide intuitive visual feedback during pairing interactions or dark-light finding. In terms of the first color matching, the new phone still continues Samsung’s consistent minimalist style, focusing on two classic texture schemes of black and white.

However, the most controversial change in the new design is the complete elimination of physical hanging holes on the fuselage body. This design concept is quite similar to Apple AirTag. Although it makes the appearance of the device more regular and compact, it greatly weakens the portable attribute of "hanging out of the box".
