Samsung has completed verification of 16GB LPDDR6 memory on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen6

📅 2026-09-23

Abstract:

According to industry insiders on the 23rd, Samsung Electronics has completed verification of 16GB LPDDR6 memory on Qualcomm’s next-generation mobile platform Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen6, with a maximum speed of 10.7Gbps. This verification is the result of Samsung’s continuous cooperation with global application processor (AP) manufacturers from the early stages of new product development. Even if a storage manufacturer successfully develops a new product, it must pass the compatibility and operational stability verification process with the application processor before it can be finally installed on a smartphone.

Samsung launched the seventh-generation mobile DRAM LPDDR5X in 2021 and completed the operation verification of the Qualcomm Snapdragon platform the following year. Subsequently, it completed the verification of MediaTek’s flagship Dimensity series AP at the industry’s highest 10.7Gbps rate, and then entered the full mass production stage.

Samsung follows the same strategy for LPDDR6. The company participated in the formulation of the LPDDR6 standard of the Solid State Technology Association (JEDEC), and at the same time conducted technical exchanges with mainstream AP manufacturers to conduct compatibility verification in advance.

Behind Samsung’s accelerated commercialization of LPDDR6 is the popularization of on-device AI. As the functions of AI agents in smartphones continue to expand, the amount of data to be processed increases rapidly, and the importance of LPDDR chips with large capacity, high-speed processing, and low power consumption continues to increase.

The data bandwidth of Samsung LPDDR6 is increased by up to 45% compared to the previous generation LPDDR5X, and the bandwidth can reach 125GB/s; the energy efficiency is improved by up to 21%.

LPDDR6 is expected to rapidly expand its market share starting next year. According to data from market research organization Omdia, based on bit capacity statistics, LPDDR6 is expected to account for 3% of all LPDDR memory shipments in 2027, 9% in 2028, 21% in 2029, and 39% in 2030.

Choi Jang-seok, vice president of the product planning team of Samsung Electronics' Memory Division, said: "We will deliver high-performance, low-power memory on time in accordance with customers' commercialization schedules and lead the next-generation AI device market."
