Samsung joins hands with Mistral AI to improve chip manufacturing capabilities and leads the latter's new round of financing

Samsung Electronics announced that it will cooperate with French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI to use its artificial intelligence services and solutions to enhance its semiconductor engineering and manufacturing capabilities to strengthen its leading position in the field of AI chip technology. The collaboration will integrate Mistral’s tools into Samsung’s semiconductor business and create on-premises AI models optimized for “intelligent-driven infrastructure.”

According to reports, Samsung will also lead Mistral AI’s Series D financing and acquire strategic equity to support the advancement of cooperation between the two parties. The cooperation was announced at the South Korea-France summit in Paris.

The customized AI model Samsung plans to develop will be used to detect defects and optimize equipment operation for more advanced and complex semiconductor manufacturing processes. Samsung said these models help speed up the research and development cycle, improve manufacturing accuracy, and promote stable yields for memory chips and logic chips.

Jun Young Hyun, vice president and CEO of Samsung Electronics' Device Solutions (DS) Division, said that the complexity of AI chip design and manufacturing continues to rise, and semiconductor technology must continue to innovate. Samsung looks forward to working with Mistral to support the changing needs of customers and promote new breakthroughs in the semiconductor ecosystem required in the AI ​​era. Mistral co-founder and CEO Arthur Mensch also said that AI is reshaping the way complex technologies are built from silicon wafers to software. The company is pleased to use its experience in the electronics and semiconductor fields to help improve chip design and manufacturing and promote technological advancement in the global semiconductor and AI value chain.

Mistral said the €3 billion round of financing was jointly participated by Samsung, Scaleup Europe Fund (managed by EQT) and existing investor PSD Equity. Financing funds will be used for basic research, expanding the computing power required to train cutting-edge models, upgrading infrastructure, and promoting its commercial growth and international layout.
