Abstract:

Google is adjusting the model access permissions of the Gemini application. According to Google official documents, starting from October 9, 2026, users who use personal accounts and have not opened a Google AI subscription plan will only be able to use Gemini Flash-Lite models. Other models such as Gemini Flash and Gemini Pro will no longer be available to free version users.

In this adjustment, Google has re-stratified model access rights according to the subscription plan. Google AI Plus subscribers can use Gemini Flash-Lite and Gemini Flash models, but cannot use Gemini Pro series models. Gemini Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro are available to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. The specific effective time of AI Plus may vary depending on the account, and Google said relevant users will receive notification via email.

This adjustment means that the free version of Gemini will only provide basic artificial intelligence services, while high-end models will become the differentiated features of paid plans. For users who mainly perform simple Q&A, text rewriting and daily information query, the impact may be relatively limited. Users who require stronger reasoning, complex programming or long content analysis may need to upgrade the solution.

It should be noted that this adjustment is mainly for the Gemini web version and Gemini application used by personal accounts. It has not yet affected Gemini API, AI Studio, and Google Workspace. Users using the above products have not received notifications from Google indicating that there are no changes for the time being. Users can continue to use related models at the previous pace. Of course, these products are either paid or free in limited quantities, so they may not be significantly adjusted.
