Abstract:
The live-action "Street Fighter" movie won the global box office title on its opening weekend, with a total box office of approximately US$51.1 million. Among them, the North American market is US$31 million, and other overseas regions total US$20.1 million. Although it performed well at the box office at the beginning, the film received lukewarm reviews from critics, which may affect the film's subsequent box office trend.

The film is directed by Sakurai Kitao, and the cast is Andrew Koji as Takashi, Noah Centineo as Ken, Liang Jingkang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as Vega, and Jason Momoa as Blanca. Even with a luxurious cast and exciting fighting scenes, it still failed to win everyone's approval. At the beginning of its release, the Rotten Tomatoes critic review score was only 41%, and the IMDb review score was 44 points.
However, the evaluation of ordinary audiences is significantly better than that of professional film critics: the Rotten Tomatoes audience praise rate reached 79%. Many viewers believe that the plot of the film is simple and straightforward, but the fighting scenes are enjoyable and the action quality is excellent. The film is clearly aimed at fans of the original fighting game.
Horizontal box office comparison: The current global performance of the film is not as good as that of the competing "Mortal Kombat" series. The 2021 version of "Mortal Kombat" grossed US$22.5 million in its North American opening weekend, and "Mortal Kombat 2" released this year took in US$63 million in its global first weekend. Whether the subsequent box office of "Street Fighter" can be stable will determine the final success or failure of this work.

The film is jointly produced by Paramount, Legendary Pictures and Capcom, with a production cost of approximately US$82 million. To recoup costs, it needs to maintain box office popularity after the first week. Negative film reviews will make it more difficult to recover the money and will also reduce the possibility of filming a sequel. However, at this stage, audience feedback is generally positive.
