Abstract:
At the end of last year, Toshiba launched the S300 AI series of hard drives. This is a new generation of mechanical hard disk drive (HDD) for surveillance, designed to meet the requirements of modern artificial intelligence (AI) driven video applications. Recently, Toshiba has begun selling the S300 AI series hard drives to the retail market and has landed on the e-commerce platform. The first batch is available in 8TB and 10TB capacities with a five-year warranty.
Toshiba said the new products are built for high-resolution video capture, analysis and storage, providing higher capacity, enhanced performance and enterprise-class durability to meet the needs of AI surveillance workloads. The surveillance market is currently evolving rapidly, with AI analytics driving new requirements for storage performance, capacity and reliability. With the S300 AI series hard drives, Toshiba will continue to expand and customize its mechanical hard drive product line to provide devices specifically built for AI workloads.
The S300 AI series is a storage solution with powerful performance and high reliability. It supports 64 high-definition cameras and an additional 32 AI streams. It can handle additional random access introduced by AI workloads, ensure fast retrieval of video data, and achieve accurate real-time AI analysis. Its appearance is 3.5-inch standard, the rotation speed is 7200RPM, and it is equipped with a SATA 6 Gbps interface. The cache of 8TB and 10TB capacities is 512MB. The continuous read speed can reach 281MB/s. It supports 24×7 work and the average time between failures can reach up to 2.5 million hours.
According to Toshiba’s plan, it will also bring products with capacities of 14TB, 16TB, 18TB, 20TB, 22TB and 24TB in the future.
