Trump calls out again: Permanent daylight saving time bill must be pushed forward

📅 2026-10-02

Abstract:

Trump posted on social media that Republicans in the Senate must take action to advance what I call the "No More Clocks Act," officially known as the "Sunshine Protection Act." Trump said that the process of adjusting the clock twice a year is ridiculous, costs the country a huge amount of money, will drive up crime rates, increase public pressure, affect sports events, and will affect almost every aspect.

PGA Tour President Brian Rolepp also supports this bill - when golf tournaments are held in winter, it often gets dark early, making it difficult to complete the tournament. People don’t want to have to adjust their clocks again and again. And most people would prefer an extra hour of sunshine in the evening rather than in the early morning.

The House of Representatives passed the bill on July 14, 2026 with 308 votes in favor and 117 votes against, receiving strong cross-party support. Both Democrats and Republicans hope the bill will be enacted. Now it’s the U.S. Senate’s turn, in what promises to be another major bipartisan victory. Unfortunately, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton shelved this bill for unknown reasons.

People are tired of adjusting their clocks twice a year. Even most farmers prefer to have longer daylight hours in the evening to harvest crops. Adjusting time is stupid, cumbersome, and sometimes costly. Cities and states in remote locations with watchtowers cost millions of dollars to do so. Recent research also shows that anxiety caused by time management can harm your health.

Trump said that authoritative medical, criminological and economic research has drawn clear conclusions: canceling the twice-yearly adjustment and permanently adding an hour of natural light in the evening will help reduce robberies and murders, reduce car accidents (especially pedestrian traffic accidents!), reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and seasonal depression; make it safer for children to walk home from school, increase family time together, and strongly support extracurricular cultural and sports activities; boost sports, fitness, tourism, retail and catering industries; it will also save electricity bills and everyone can enjoy an extra hour of daylight.

To put it simply, keep the current time and never adjust the clock again. The bottom line: almost everyone doesn't want to adjust their clocks twice a year. This is an issue that Republicans, Democrats and independents can all support.
