Abstract:
Twelve South releases AirFly View, which adds a built-in screen to the original AirFly wireless audio adapter, using icons and step-by-step prompts to guide users to pair Bluetooth headsets. It is intended for devices without Bluetooth but with a 3.5mm headphone jack, such as aircraft seat entertainment systems, and can also connect other wired audio output devices.

The new model is priced at US$79.99 and will go on sale on October 27. It comes with a storage bag and an adapter that can connect the device’s short 3.5mm plug to the aircraft’s dual-plug headphone jack. The screen supports 24 languages, including Japanese, Arabic, Portuguese and Polish; it will turn off when idle and display operating instructions when connected or paired.

The display can also view the remaining battery capacity and the name of the currently connected headphones or earbuds. AirFly View has a nominal battery life of up to about 16 hours, and one adapter can transmit audio to two pairs of Bluetooth headsets at the same time, making it suitable for travelers to listen to in-flight entertainment content together.
The device also supports Auracast broadcast audio, which theoretically allows more compatible headsets to receive the same audio source; however, actual use depends on whether the headset supports Auracast, and there are currently not many compatible products. The main changes in AirFly View focus on more intuitive pairing instructions and screen status information. The audio source still needs to be accessed through the 3.5mm interface.
