Xbox CEO Sharma confirms Project Helix as next-generation device family

📅 2026-08-30

Abstract:

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma seems to have made a public statement for the first time recently, calling the next-generation console product line code-named "Project Helix" a "device family." In an interview with BBC News, the head of the console manufacturer talked about the company's development plans for next-generation console products. The project currently only has the internal codename "Project Helix" disclosed.

Sharma said: "We have been working hard to develop next-generation products and build a complete device family for the Helix project." These words seem to confirm that when the next-generation console is officially launched, there will not be only a single Xbox model to choose from.

In the current generation of consoles, Microsoft has deployed the Xbox Series X with stronger performance and higher price, and the Xbox Series S with lower price and weaker performance but can play all the games of the same generation. The official composition of the "device family" of the Helix project has not yet been officially disclosed, but it is not difficult to predict that Microsoft will most likely continue its dual-host strategy, and may even further enter the field of handheld games.

She added: "Of course we will continue to break through the upper limit of performance. We have also mentioned before that future consoles can not only run native console games, but also support PC games. In addition, I think the entire industry needs to promote innovation in affordability and energy efficiency. This was not an issue we needed to focus on in the past, but now the hardware and components industry is facing a crisis. This is definitely a direction that the entire industry needs to think deeply about and need to break through to give players more choices, whether it is how to play the console or how to buy it."

There is currently very limited public information about the Helix project. It can only be confirmed that it is getting closer to a PC hybrid architecture device and can be compatible with both PC and Xbox console games - and the bare metal price of the whole machine is likely to be very high.

During the interview, Sharma also mentioned that the diversified purchase model of smartphones may provide solutions to the pricing problems of next-generation consoles. She explained that differentiated business models can cover a wider user group.

When asked whether "The Elder Scrolls 6" would become an Xbox console exclusive, Sharma only responded: "Each platform requires a certain form of exclusive experience content."
