Abstract:
Microsoft's next-generation Xbox project "Project Helix" may be launched in the form of a family of devices instead of just one console. Asha Sharma, CEO of Microsoft's gaming division, confirmed in March this year that "Project Helix" is the code name for the company's next-generation game console. Since then, news about the project has been exposed one after another.
It has been revealed that the performance of Helix may be equivalent to that of a high-end gaming computer priced at US$2,000 to US$3,000. However, Microsoft has not released much specific information yet. What is known is that this device will use a custom AMC SoC and support Xbox games and PC games.
Recently, Sharma said in an interview with the BBC during the Cologne Games Show: "We have been working hard to build excellent next-generation products and an entire family of devices built around Helix, and more information will be announced soon."
Sharma's statement shows that "Project Helix" may cover more than one device, which is different from the previous consensus that it only represents the next generation of Xbox consoles. However, this direction is not surprising. Rumors that Microsoft is developing an Xbox handheld console have persisted for a long time, and the background of this announcement was that reporters asked whether Helix would be equipped with a disc drive. Therefore, the so-called "device family" may also mean that Microsoft will launch different models such as digital version and optical drive version.
In addition, Microsoft launched a product to replace the Xbox Series S, which is also in line with external expectations. By then, Project Helix may cover devices of different forms and positionings, together forming Microsoft's next-generation Xbox ecosystem.
