Abstract:
On September 30, Beijing time, the AIR3 products of Chinese smart glasses brand INMO were recalled in the United States due to wearing safety issues. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) disclosed that the company has received 10 reports of overheating, including feedback of users experiencing a burning sensation on their face and side of their left ear. The products involved sell for $900 to $1,300 in the United States.
This problem occurs on the left side of the temple close to the user's head. The CPSC says this area may overheat during prolonged use, posing a risk of burns. The recall announced on September 24 involves approximately 1,643 pairs of glasses in the U.S. market, and approximately 120 pairs sold in Canada.
The usage scenarios of AIR3 include AI translation, AI-assisted office work and streaming media playback. The official website of Yingmu positions it as an "all-in-one AI+AR smart terminal". These functions require users to wear the device on their heads, and the hidden dangers pointed out by this recall happen during long-term use.
The software repair method used in this recall has also attracted attention. CPSC requires consumers to stop using it immediately and contact INMO for free repair. The company will assist in upgrading the system to version V3.16 online. The announcement did not explain the specific cause of the overheating, nor did it reveal how a software update would address the issue.
The glasses in question were sold through Amazon, INMO’s official website and Kickstarter from December 2025 to August 2026. Although the CPSC described the hazard as potentially causing serious injury or death due to burns, the actual reports disclosed in the announcement were of overheating and burning sensation, and no cases of serious injury or death were listed.
