It is reported that from 2022 to 2023, the research team collected several Gecko specimens at the junction of Anhui Province and Henan Province in the Dabie Mountains. Their strong aggressive behavior attracted the attention of researchers.

By studying three mitochondrial gene fragments, researchers found that this new species of gecko from the Dabie Mountains is an independent branch in the evolutionary tree.
Based on principal component analysis and single-factor analysis of variance, the results show that there are significant morphological differences between the Dabie Mountain gecko and its closely related species, the Qianshan gecko. The Dabie Mountain gecko can be distinguished by morphological differences such as warty scales on its limbs, a larger number of preanal pores, and more warty scales between the eyes and ears.
The discovery of this new species of gecko increases the number of gecko genus to 87 species, and also increases the number of gecko species in my country to 22 species.
Recently, relevant research results were jointly published in the international journal "Animals" by researchers from Anhui University, Nanjing Normal University, and Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
