U.S. touch chip giant Synaptics said it plans to strengthen its business in India and aims to make India its second-largest design center in the world by the end of 2024. It currently plans to expand office space in India and hire more employees.
Venkat Kodavati, senior vice president and general manager of wireless products at Synaptics, said that the company's business in India began with the acquisition of Marvell Multimedia in 2017 and has made great progress in the past five or six years. Synaptics' rapid growth in India is driven by its rich talent pool, especially in wireless and processor technologies.
Synaptics' current team in India has about 300 employees, with software and hardware accounting for half. The company has complete end-to-end product development in India and also has a testing laboratory. Synaptics also strategically cooperates with local companies in India, including verification, back-end work and device verification after manufacturing is completed.
Kodavati said India's traditional advantage is software, but hardware is also on the rise. Although India has a wealth of engineering talent, finding the right talent remains a challenge.
