Intel is expected to launch its flagship Core i9-14900KS limited edition CPU later this year, and a recent leak appears to have revealed some of its key technical specifications. The upcoming chip is believed to be a slightly enhanced version of the Core i9-14900K launched last year as part of the Raptor Lake Refresh series.
The specifications of the Core i9-14900KS were announced in the OCCT database. According to the information disclosed, 14900KS will have 24 cores, including 8 P cores and 16 E cores. It will also support 32 threads and be nearly identical to the existing 14900K in terms of core and thread count.
The new chip will reportedly have a base clock frequency of 3.2GHz, the same as the 14900K. Other specifications of the 14900KS include 36MB L3 cache and 32MB L2 cache, which are also consistent with the specifications of the 14900K.
However, the listing also shows some upgrades compared to the standard 14900K, such as a 6.2GHz boost speed, which is 200MHz higher than the existing version. The upcoming chip will also come with a base TDP of 150W, a 25W increase over the 14900K’s 125WTDP. However, the peak power consumption of the 14900KS can be as high as 410W, with an average power consumption of 330W.
Due to the higher power consumption, the 14900KS is expected to run quite hot, up to 101 degrees Celsius. These high temperatures indicate that users need to invest additional in enhanced cooling solutions to ensure that they can get the most out of their flagship CPUs without hitting a temperature wall.
So far, there's no official word from Intel on the new Raptor Lake Refresh CPU, but it's likely to be released soon. Speculation online suggests it could cost around $800, similar to the 13900KS, but we can't confirm that until Intel officially launches it.
