Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry recently stated at the "Kyushu Semiconductor Talent Cultivation and Etc. Federation" that TSMC's Kumamoto subsidiary JASM will recruit 500 employees from Taiwan, China, for the Kumamoto Plant 2, plus a total of 1,700 employees recruited locally. Including the employees of Kumamoto Factory 1, TSMC has a total of 3,400 employees in Japan.

According to the TSMC Second Factory Plan recognized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, JASM plans to launch semiconductor courses at Kyushu University and prepare a semiconductor-related scholarship system to cultivate talents.

It is reported that in addition to mass-producing 6 to 12nm logic semiconductors, TSMC Kumamoto Plant II will also provide 40nm process technology in consideration of the needs of Japanese customers. The production capacity is converted to 12-inch wafers, reaching 48,000 wafers per month, and if 40nm is included, it is 63,000 wafers per month.

TSMC’s Kumamoto Plant II plans to start construction at the end of this year and start shipping at the end of 2027.

On February 24, TSMC’s Kumamoto Plant 1 held an opening ceremony. In his speech, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Takeru Saito said that he welcomed TSMC’s continued construction of Kumamoto Plant 2 and would provide financial subsidies. It was also announced after the meeting that the Japanese government would provide 732 billion yen in subsidies for the second plant.

In addition, TSMC’s recently opened Kumamoto Factory 1, with a Japanese government subsidy of 476 billion yen, will be involved in the production of 28/16/12nm process products.
