Industry reporter Tom Warren revealed on social media that a new "Doom" game is in development, but it is still in the early stages. In addition, id Software has not turned into an auxiliary studio after the layoffs and will continue to operate normally.

"While the layoffs at id Software are significant, I understand that these changes do not turn id Software into an ancillary studio. Instead, they are now developing a new Doom game, which is currently in the early stages."

id Software hinted at this in its latest announcement.

id Software’s official tweet: “While our studio has been impacted, these changes are spread across teams. We still have the people we need to build games and technology we are proud of. The team size today is roughly the same as when we made Doom 2016. We have always adhered to a flat studio philosophy where everyone is a creator, and we will continue to adhere to this philosophy.”

While the statement didn't explain what the team will be working on next, it's certainly encouraging news for fans of the studio to hear that there may still be enough members on the team to continue working on the upcoming game.
