Samsung's smart ring Galaxy Ring is expected to be released as early as the third quarter of next year. Although Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Ring is still in the early development stage, industry insiders believe that Samsung Galaxy Ring plans to launch in the third quarter of 2024 or the first quarter of 2025. According to industry insiders, Samsung Electronics is still developing the smart ring product Galaxy Ring. A smart ring is a wearable device that is worn like a ring. Through the various sensors it is equipped with, body and health information can be checked through the smartphone app.

Samsung Electronics is developing a Galaxy Ring model in four sizes. This is to cope with various finger thicknesses of consumers.

It is understood that the Galaxy Ring currently under development by Samsung Electronics is too large to be commercialized immediately. It is expected that early development will be carried out in the direction of implementing as many functions as possible in the Galaxy Ring, and then in the mass production development stage, work will be carried out to reduce the size of the product by removing some functions so that consumers can use it directly.

Samsung Electronics is cooperating with a number of component companies on Galaxy Ring pre-development projects, including DoosungTech, which is headquartered in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, and South Korea's Seongjeon Company, which has a sales office in Suwon City.

Industry predictions suggest that Galaxy Ring will be unveiled as early as the third quarter of next year, and is likely to be released in the third quarter of next year or the first quarter of 2025. It is reported that Samsung Electronics has received instructions to prepare to release the Galaxy Ring when the Galaxy Z Flip 6/Fold 6 folding screen is released in the third quarter of next year.

If Samsung Electronics wants to release the Galaxy Ring after receiving medical device certification like the Galaxy Watch smartwatch, it is more likely to be launched in the first quarter of 2025. Typically, product development takes 7 to 8 months, and medical device approval takes another 10 to 12 months. In order for a manufacturer to apply for medical device certification for a specific product, the product must be developed to a level where radio certification can be obtained.

Currently, Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Ring product design has not been completed, so considering the time required for medical device approval (10 to 12 months), it is expected that it will be difficult to launch a Galaxy Ring that supports medical device functions in the third quarter of next year.

The reason why the industry is interested in whether Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Ring supports medical device functions is because of the medical device functions of Galaxy Watch. The Galaxy Watch series has obtained medical device certifications for blood pressure and electrocardiogram measurement, menstrual cycle prediction, and irregular heartbeat notification (IHRN), and was recently approved by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for early detection support functions. The sleep apnea early detection support feature is planned to be supported on Galaxy Watch 5/6 through an update to the Samsung Health Monitor app early next year.

There are currently no smart rings that function as medical devices that are classified as "health" products. The industry believes that Samsung Electronics is very likely to launch the Galaxy Ring with medical device functions, and it is expected to be more accurate than the Galaxy Watch in measuring body information.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is also considering the Galaxy Ring for use with extended reality (XR) devices.
