After lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries will officially enter the stage of history. Recently, the China Chemical and Physical Power Supply Industry Association issued a notice to publicize and solicit opinions online on the association group standard "General Specifications for Sodium Ion Batteries" from October 8 to November 7. It is reported thatThe "General Specifications for Sodium-Ion Batteries" applies to sodium-ion battery cells and battery modules used in electric vehicles, light power and energy storage.
After the public solicitation for opinions ends, the preparation team is expected to officially release this "Specification" and start implementation around November.
Sodium-ion batteries have attracted much attention because of theirLow price, stable performance, and more resistant to low temperatures, has good charge and discharge rate performance, can meet the energy density requirements of two-wheeled electric vehicles, power tools, energy storage, and A00-class electric vehicles, and give full play to the excellent safety characteristics of sodium-ion batteries.
In addition, sodium resources are abundantly stored. Data show that the abundance of sodium in the earth's crust is as high as 2.75%, and it is distributed around the world. The amount of resources in our country is not low, so the cost of sodium ore resources is extremely low, only 2 yuan/kg, when used in batteries, the cost difference between sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries will not be dozens of times higher, but the material cost of sodium-ion batteries is at least 30-40% lower.
Sodium-ion batteries have been favored by many battery manufacturers and have undergone in-depth research and development. CATL launched the first-generation sodium-ion battery in 2021, with an energy density of 160Wh/kg. After charging for 15 minutes at room temperature, the power can reach 80%. In a low temperature environment of minus 20°C, it still has a discharge retention rate of more than 90%.
CATL is already developing the second generation of sodium-ion batteries. The energy density can be increased to 200Wh/kg. This level is similar to the energy density of the current mainstream lithium iron phosphate batteries and is beginning to approach ternary lithium batteries. It is reported thatChery’s electric model will be launched for the first time.
