The code name of Ubuntu 24.04 has been officially announced as "NobleNumbat", and the beginning of the next development cycle has been unveiled. Following the first release of Ubuntu23.10 this month, the development of Ubuntu24.04LTS has officially begun. Numbat, an animal native to Australia, is a small marsupial that eats termites.
Tonight, Ubuntu announced that 24.04 has officially started development. Work on automatic synchronization from upstream Debian systems has begun.
According to the plan of Ubuntu24.04LTS, the official version will be released on April 25. The feature freeze will be on February 29th, the user interface freeze on March 21st, and the kernel freeze on April 11th. The Ubuntu 24.04LTS beta version will be released on April 4.
Ubuntu24.04LTS will eventually release Linux 6.7 or 6.8 kernel, GNOME46, Mesa24.1 and a large number of other software package updates. Since this is an LTS release, it will be more conservative in terms of changes than a temporary non-LTS cycle.
