The Supreme Court said on Wednesday it would hear ByteDance and TikTok's challenge to a law enacted by Congress that would ban social networks from operating in the United States unless they divest from their Chinese owners by January 19.

On January 10, Supreme Court justices will hear arguments on whether "sell or ban" laws violate the First Amendment. It's unclear how soon the court will rule.

The two companies asked the Supreme Court on Monday to block the law. Last week, ByteDance and TikTok filed an emergency motion asking the appeals court to temporarily block the law to give the Supreme Court a chance to evaluate the case.

It is worth noting that according to CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins, TikTok CEO Zhou Shouzi met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Monday.
