Sony revealed the technical details of the PlayStation 5 Pro in its latest video and hinted at some potential technical directions for the next-generation PlayStation console, the PlayStation 6. In the video, Sony's chief system architect Mark Cerny introduced the core technology of PS5 Pro and said that they are working with AMD to develop a project called "Amethyst" to improve machine learning capabilities and the richness of game graphics.

Cerny believes that ray tracing technology will usher in many leaps forward in the next decade, and the "Amethyst" project will lay the foundation for these advancements.

It was previously reported that Sony has reached an agreement with AMD to use AMD hardware in future game consoles. Cerny’s latest statement confirms the news, which means that PS6 will become the next-generation game console developed by Sony and AMD.

Considering that the PS4 has a seven-year life cycle and the PS5 was released in 2020, the PS6 release date may be around 2027. At present, Sony has not officially announced any information about PS6, but what is certain is that they have begun to prepare for the next generation of game consoles.
