On November 17, the new BMW 5 Series long-wheelbase version made its world premiere at the Guangzhou Auto Show. For the first time in the history of the BMW 5 Series, the pure electric BMW i5 was launched. The new BMW 5 Series will be launched at the end of January 2024 and will be delivered gradually. In addition, the BMW Group said it is accelerating the construction of "BMW Super Charging Stations", high-power charging piles that support up to 600 kilowatts of charging power.
The new BMW 5 Series is 5,175 mm long and has a wheelbase of 3,105 mm. It also brings fuel and pure electric models, and the power system is fully electrified. In the fuel version, the inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine is equipped with 48V light-hybrid technology, with a maximum power of 190 kilowatts and a peak torque of 400 Nm.
The BMW 5 Series launches a pure electric model for the first time. The pure electric BMW i5 uses fifth-generation BMW WeDrive electric drive technology and BMW's latest charging technology, such as battery preheating management, and supports high-power charging services. The innovative pure electric BMWi5 long-wheelbase version has a maximum cruising range of more than 700 kilometers.
In addition, an M model was also introduced for the first time, the pure electric BMW i5M60. Press the SportBoost button and step on the accelerator. The output torque of the dual motors will instantly increase to 820 N·m, and the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 mph in 3.8 seconds. In order to obtain the ultimate dynamic performance, BMWi5M60 is also equipped with a series of exclusive performance equipment such as adaptive M sports suspension Pro and M high-performance calipers.
The new BMW 5 Series long-wheelbase version of the rear entertainment system is equipped with an 8K, 31-inch giant screen, which is connected in real time after activation and supports 32:9 panoramic playback mode. It also introduces the Huawei App Market, allowing users to select additional applications independently. Users can also realize various functions such as screencasting, playing games, playing videos, and participating in meetings in the back row.
The new BMW 5 Series applies the L2+ level intelligent driving assistance system, bringing BMW's world's first automatic lane change function with sight confirmation. On highways and closed roads in the speed range of 60 km/h to 180 km/h, it tracks the driver's eyes and head movements. When the lane change conditions are met, the driver only needs to look at the rearview mirror as usual to change lanes.
The new BMW 5 Series long wheelbase version is technically capable of expanding to L3 level autonomous driving. The BMW China R&D team has also strengthened the localized research and development of L3 level autonomous driving and will be fully prepared for the future adaptation and application of L3 level autonomous driving functions in China in accordance with local regulations.
According to BMW, as of the end of October 2023, the BMW public charging network has access to more than 580,000 public charging piles across the country (including 320,000 DC charging piles), covering more than 320 cities. In August this year, the BMW Super Charging Station project was officially launched. High-power charging piles support up to 600 kilowatts of charging power, and the super charging station network is open to all brands of electric vehicles. Within three months, the super charging station network covered nine major cities including Guangzhou, and it is expected that about 50 stations will be completed by the end of 2023.
