On Tuesday (21st Beijing time), more than two dozen U.S. House Democrats accused Elon Musk’s X social media platform of “profiting from violent content from terrorist organizations” and asked him and CEO Linda Yaccarino to handle Hamas-related content on the social media platform.

"The platform has become a breeding ground for misinformation and terrorist propaganda," 27 Democrats, led by Reps. Dan Goldman of New York and Jamie Raskin of Maryland, wrote in a letter.

They wrote that since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7, the already "inexcusable" problem of anti-Semitic content on X has become "completely untenable." The United States has designated Hamas as a terrorist organization since 1997.

"Given the many blatant examples of X profiting from this content, we need detailed answers from X to consider potential legislation to prevent this type of activity in the future," the representatives wrote in the letter.

The lawmakers gave Musk and Yacarino until December 1 to provide "all forms of written communications" related to content moderation for any posts or accounts related to Hamas.

In addition to the records, House Democrats asked Musk and Yacarino to detail how Platform X plans to handle Hamas-related content currently on the platform. They also wanted to know what changes the company "plans to implement to ensure the harmful spread of terrorist propaganda does not happen again."
