Part of the recent Rust controversy in the Linux kernel group stems from Christoph Hellwig's expressed opposition to binding Rust into the DMA mapping helper for which he is one of the maintainers. Kernel Merged into Linux 6.14 Git is updating DMA map maintainer entries.
Christoph Hellwig removed himself as DMA map maintainer, explaining:
It appears that Marek Szyprowski will now maintain the DMA mapping helper alone. He and Linus Torvalds signed the patch that removed Hellwig's maintainer status.
After resigning, Hellwig will continue to (co-)maintain the NVMe driver, NVMe target driver, personality processing and FreeVXFS file system areas in the kernel.
