On February 28, local time, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the U.S. Space Exploration Technology Company (SpaceX) plans toMarch 3"Starship" heavy-lift launch vehicleThe eighth test flightemission. Looking back on the past,January 16, SpaceX successfully conducted a "Starship" test in southern Texasseventh timeTest flight launch.
During the launch process, the first-stage booster of the rocket was recovered from the launch tower again, and was "captured" and recovered in mid-air by the mechanical arm on the launch tower.
However, the rocket's second-stage spacecraft later lost contact with the ground team, and the spacecraft's live broadcast was interrupted. SpaceX later confirmed,The "Starship" spacecraft malfunctioned,The team lost the exact location of the ship.
It is worth noting that during this mission, the "Starship" carried10Starlink simulators serve as payloads. These simulators are similar in size and weight to SpaceX’s next-generation Starlink satellites.
Following the incident, there were reports of damage to public property in the Turks and Caicos Islands. In response, the US Federal Aviation Administration ordered an investigation.
While the investigation is led by SpaceX, the final report and corrective actions to prevent similar problems from happening again must be approved by federal agencies.
