In his speech at the Lei Jun Scholarship Award Ceremony a few days ago, Lei Jun said that everyone thinks Xiaomi products are worth the money because "we restrain our greed and only earn a little."He mentioned that a special press conference was held in 2018 and a permanent commitment was made that the comprehensive gross profit margin of all hardware would not exceed 5%, so today everyone feels that Xiaomi products are worth the money. Many people use a whole set of millet at home. In fact, we don’t have any secret. It’s just that we restrain our greed and only earn a little.

On April 25, 2018, Lei Jun, who returned to his alma mater Wuhan University, announced a board resolution to the media: From now on, Xiaomi promises users that the annual comprehensive after-tax net profit rate of the overall hardware business (including mobile phones, IoT and consumer products) will not exceed 5%; if it exceeds, the excess 5% will be returned to Xiaomi users in a reasonable manner.

Although Xiaomi started with low profits and high cost performance, this is the first time that Lei Jun has publicly limited the net profit margin of its products.

On March 24, Lei Jun returned to his alma mater, Wuhan University, and personally awarded scholarships of 100,000 yuan each to 10 outstanding students who received the "Lei Jun Excellence Scholarship."

It is reported that Lei Jun donated 1.3 billion yuan to his alma mater in 2023, focusing on the research of basic subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, literature, history and philosophy, technological innovation in the computer field and the cultivation of college students.
