Recently, the Quantum Laboratory of Alibaba Damo Academy officially confirmed its dismantling, and the laboratory and its instruments and equipment were donated to Zhejiang University, triggering heated discussions. Today, Shi Yaoyun, the main person in charge of the DAMO Academy Quantum Laboratory and the chief scientist of Alibaba Cloud Quantum Technology, released what is suspected to be the "last photo" of all members of the DAMO Academy Quantum Laboratory in Alibaba, and attached a text saying: "Just like the eternity of science, it transcends power. We are here to fight for it, and I hope that you can continue the cause with me, which also transcends any company or organization."

In 2015, the "Quantum Computing Laboratory", the predecessor of the Alibaba Damo Academy Quantum Laboratory, was officially established and was jointly built by Alibaba Cloud and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Not long after its establishment, in September 2017, the laboratory hired Shi Yaoyun, the world's top quantum computing scientist and tenured professor at the University of Michigan, to mainly promote the implementation of quantum computing.

Shi Yaoyun graduated from Peking University in 1997 and later obtained a PhD in computer science from Princeton University. He is a disciple of Turing Award winner Yao Qizhi. After joining Alibaba Cloud, Shi Yaoyun served as the chief scientist of Alibaba Cloud's quantum technology. His main job was to establish and be responsible for the quantum computing laboratory and serve as the laboratory director.
