Mercedes-Benz confirmed yesterday that it has sold all of its shares in Nissan for 47.87 billion yen (approximately 2.321 billion yuan). Mercedes-Benz said it sold 140.1 million Nissan shares held by the company at a price of 341.3 yen (approximately RMB 16.6) per share.
The sale was said to be to "clean up the portfolio" and the shares had been transferred to pension assets since 2016 and were not strategic investments.
Data from research institutions show that as of the end of March this year, Mercedes-Benz held a total of 3.77% of Nissan's shares.
It is worth noting that the sale of shares occurred after Nissan and its largest shareholder Renault revised the cooperation agreement. At that time, the two companies revised the cooperation agreement and reduced Renault's shareholding requirement from 15% to 10%.
As of now, Nissan has not publicly responded to this matter.
