Motorola has launched special edition smartphones razr40ultra/razr+ and edge40neo. For the first time, these two smartphones feature Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz.
Pantone describes PeachFuzz as "a velvety peach hue whose all-encompassing spirit enriches the mind, body and soul." This is the second time Motorola has partnered with Pantone to release a special edition device. Last year, Motorola edge30fusion adopted Pantone's 2023 Color of the Year "VivaMagenta".
The Pantone Color Institute has an educational program called "Pantone Color of the Year," in which a global team of color experts selects a color as the popular color for the coming year. Experts selected this color after analyzing trends in culture, society, economics and politics, and continued long conversations throughout the year.
Pantone is a renowned color authority, and this year marks the program's 25th anniversary. The program began in 1999 to spark discussions around color among the design community and color enthusiasts. Cerulean Blue was selected as the Color of the Year when it was first released.
The program has impacted many industries such as fashion, cosmetics, homewares, automotive, as well as packaging, products and commercial interiors. Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, explained in an interview:
Whatever is happening in our culture during the year will influence the selection of Pantone's Color of the Year, and each source has a different weight each year depending on what is happening in our culture at the time. For example, if you look back 15 years ago, technology played a minimal role. Today, this is no longer the case. Gaming, social media, augmented and virtual reality, and physical design itself are all influenced by our technology and the colors we have access to in digital environments.
Motorola razr40ultra is a foldable mobile phone released in June, with built-in Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 processor, 8GB LPDDR5 memory and 256GB body storage space. It is equipped with a 3.6-inch POLED external display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz.
On the other hand, Motorola edge40neo is the latest smartphone with built-in MediaTek Dimensity7030, 12GB LPDDR5 memory and 256GB body storage space. Motorola said in a blog post that these special edition devices will be available in select markets around the world.
