In "Super Mario Bros.", players need to control the Mario Brothers to pass various levels. But in "The Legend of Zelda", Princess Zelda is not the object of player control. But this situation may be broken in subsequent orthodox sequels, at least that’s what producer Eiji Aonuma said.

In an interview with the media, Aonuma Eiji and Fujibayashi Hidemaru talked about the character of Zelda in "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom". In this game, the protagonist is always Link, so the reporter asked the two developers what this situation is, and whether Zelda will become a playable character in the future. The two developers didn't give a clear answer, but did their best to blur the focus. However, Aonuma Eiji said "maybe" that one day in the future, players can play the role of the princess instead of just rescuing the princess.

Eiji Aonuma said: "Of course, the name of this game is "The Legend of Zelda", but the protagonist has always been Link, and Zelda is also in it. They have relationships and their own rules in each game. I think there is room for design in this aspect, and Zelda's character will have some possibilities in the future."

There is a game on the CD-i console called "The Adventures of Zelda" with Zelda as the protagonist, but it's best not to mention it too much, otherwise Nintendo will fall out.
