Sam Altman responded to the controversy caused by the pornographic content of ChatGPT: OpenAI is not the "world's moral police"

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on Wednesday that the company is "not the elected moral policeman of the world." Previously, he decided to relax ChatGPT’s content restrictions and allow pornographic and other types of content to exist. This move triggered strong opposition. In recent months, the artificial intelligence startup has faced increasing scrutiny over how it protects its users, especially minors, and for this reason OpenAI has gradually improved its security controls.

But Altman posted on the social platform X on Tuesday that OpenAI can now "safely relax" most content restrictions now that the company has been able to mitigate "serious mental health risks."

In December last year, Altman said that ChatGPT would allow more types of content, including erotic content.

On Wednesday, Ultraman posted another post on the X platform in an attempt to clarify this move. He said that OpenAI “takes the principle of ‘treating adult users as adults’ very seriously” but would still not allow “content that causes harm to others” to appear.

"Just as society draws the line between other legitimate boundaries (such as R-rated movies), we hope to take a similar approach here," Altman wrote.
