Fushan Technology, a subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn, is applying for a license to expand production in Vietnam to make Xbox gaming devices and other electronic components, according to a corporate document submitted to Bac Ninh province’s environment department.

The document also shows that the company plans to increase its mobile phone production capacity by 30 million units, bringing the total annual production capacity to 140 million units; it also plans to start the production of smart ring charging equipment. A smart ring is a device that can be worn on the finger and has the functions of a smart watch and a sports tracker.

The company said the factory upgrade has started and is expected to be fully operational in April next year.

The document mentions that Fushan Technology's factory, which originally produced Nokia and Microsoft mobile devices, can also produce up to 100,000 unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, per year.

Vietnam Fushan Technology did not respond to a request for comment.

Foxconn is a supplier to technology companies such as Apple and Microsoft. Since entering the Vietnamese market in the early 2000s, the company has invested more than US$3.2 billion in Vietnam as of 2024.

Most of its production operations in Vietnam are concentrated in the northern provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang.
