Recently, a blogger with the online name "Mr. Ding" became popular because he spent 3,999 yuan to buy a "Mate 40" in 2022. After using it for two years, he went to a Huawei store to expand its capacity and was rejected. The clerk said bluntly: "Brother, this is TD Qiao M40, not Huawei, and the capacity cannot be expanded!"Later, he posted his experience on the Internet, which sparked a huge discussion. Currently, the number of likes on his Douyin account has exceeded 410,000.

Some people questioned that he was deliberately attracting traffic. He himself responded by posting a video saying,I bought this phone in 2022. At that time, I really thought it was a certain model of Huawei Mate 40.

After using it for two years, the memory was full in 2024. I wanted to expand the capacity and went to the store for consultation, only to discover this problem.

In fact, the model in his hand, called TD Tech M40, is not a copycat phone, but a joint venture brand between Huawei and Nokia. It was originally a customized phone for government and enterprises (such as police communication), but it began to enter the consumer market in 2022. It replicates the appearance of Huawei's flagship mobile phone but has 5G. Some Huawei dealers even sold it directly in the store.

This TD Tech M40 is the first product and will be officially released in May 2022. Its appearance is almost identical to the Mate 40, with a highly recognizable star ring design.

The front is a 6.5-inch 68° OLED curved screen. The core is equipped with MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor, supports 5G dual SIM card dual standby, has a built-in 4200mAh battery, has 40W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging, supports wireless reverse charging, can provide support for other devices, and has built-in stereo dual speakers.

Although it is endorsed by Huawei, its brand is not Huawei after all. Naturally, you cannot obtain services at Huawei offline stores. If you need after-sales service, just contact TD Tech.

It is worth noting that in 2023, Nokia once wanted to sell 51% of the shares of TD Tech to New Oriental New Materials, another domestic company, for a transaction consideration of 2.1216 billion yuan. However, it was strongly opposed by Huawei and the acquisition was later terminated.

On February 28, 2024, the official website of the State Administration for Market Regulation announced the approval of the TD Tech acquisition, and Nokia was kicked out.

It is now wholly owned by Chengdu TD Tech Holdings Co., Ltd., which is jointly held by Chengdu Hi-Tech Huagai Communications Equity Investment Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership), Huawei's Shenzhen Hubble Technology Investment Partnership (Limited Partnership), and Chengdu Gaotou Electronic Information Industry Group Co., Ltd.The shareholding ratios of the three companies are: 70%, 23.59%, and 6.41% respectively.

Although TD Tech has almost withdrawn from the consumer business, it is still launching industry-customized phones based on Huawei flagships, such as the Mate 70 series, Mate 60 series, nova 14 series, etc. The system is based on the Hongmeng system, which can achieve complete autonomy and control, ensuring the security of special industries.
