HBO executive Casey Bloys hinted that the live-action drama "The Last of Us" may end with its upcoming third season. The second season of the show received mixed reviews, and Neil Druckmann, the creator of the original game, has withdrawn from subsequent production of the series. Since then, the future development of the live-action series "The Last of Us" has been unresolved.

However, it was generally believed that the show would be released for at least two more seasons. The first season of the show was adapted from the plot of the first-generation "The Last of Us" game, and the first-generation game was much shorter than "The Last of Us 2".

HBO executive suggests 'The Last of Us' season 3 may be final

Showrunner Craig Mazin has previously stated that the HBO live-action drama will be produced for at least four seasons. He said in an interview last year that "the length of the third season simply cannot tell the entire story."

He also said: "I think the third season is likely to be longer than the second season, just because the narrative method of this season and the creative space it brings are slightly different from the previous ones."

But now it seems that Mazin’s plan may not be realized. In an interview, when asked whether the next season of "The Last of Us" will be the final season, HBO executive Bloys responded.

He said: "It does seem possible, but for this kind of decision, we will follow the opinions of the creative team, you can ask them."

Neil Druckmann explained his decision to step away from the show's creative production last year. He said, "Now is the perfect time for me to fully devote myself to Naughty Dog Studio and its future projects, including writing and directing our highly anticipated new game Star: Prophets of Heresy, while continuing to fulfill my various responsibilities as studio head and creative director."
