Lenovo Group officially announced that it has completed the acquisition of the firmware technology business of Phoenix Technologie and has fully acquired relevant intellectual property rights, technical assets and core R&D teams. After this acquisition, Lenovo has fully internalized its firmware research and development capabilities and built an independent and controllable technology base for AI PCs, AI servers and end-side smart devices.

It is reported that Phoenix Technologie is an established technology company in the PC industry chain. It has a long history in the field of firmware and its technology has been widely used in mainstream PC brands around the world. Phoenix Technologie has long provided BIOS solutions for the Lenovo ThinkPad series, and has mature engineering capabilities, continuous innovation system and in-depth cooperation resources with global mainstream chip manufacturers.
As the underlying program for starting and running computing devices, firmware is responsible for key responsibilities such as hardware initialization, system wake-up, security verification, and operating system loading. It is an important basic software layer for PCs, workstations, and servers. In the context of the rapid evolution of AI terminals, device forms are extending from traditional PCs to AI PCs, edge terminals, smart workstations and enterprise-level AI infrastructure, and the importance of underlying firmware is simultaneously increasing.
Luca Rossi, President of Lenovo Group's Intelligent Device Group, said: "This transaction is a strategic step for Lenovo. Self-developed firmware will strengthen core engineering capabilities, better control key links at the bottom of computing, accelerate innovation, improve security, deepen vertical integration, and achieve significant cost optimization. Phoenix Technology has a profound foundation in the field of firmware, and its unique technical capabilities will further enhance Lenovo's product matrix."
