The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently released a report stating that advanced artificial intelligence models, represented by Claude Mythos recently launched by Anthropic, are causing a sharp rise in global network security risks. The agency emphasized that if not effectively controlled, cyberattacks driven by artificial intelligence may seriously threaten the stability of the global financial system.

The report points out that the Claude Mythos model has the ability to automatically discover and exploit vulnerabilities in various mainstream operating systems and web browsers, which significantly lowers the technical threshold for network attacks, making it easy for non-professionals to launch attacks. Analysis by the International Monetary Fund believes that since the speed of discovering system weaknesses is much faster than the speed of repair and repair, such powerful artificial intelligence tools have significantly expanded the advantages of cyber attackers and made defenders increasingly passive.
In addition, the current financial system is highly dependent on general-purpose software and shared service providers. The International Monetary Fund warns that under such an interconnected infrastructure, artificial intelligence-assisted cyber attacks not only threaten the financial sector, but can also easily spread to key real industries such as energy, telecommunications and public services. Analysts from the US investment institution Wedbush also confirmed in the latest report that the launch of Claude Mythos has indeed intensified the pressure on current network security defenses.
In view of the above new risks, the International Monetary Fund calls on all parties to comprehensively strengthen existing network security protection mechanisms to adapt to the more rapid, highly automated and increasingly complex cyber attack forms in the future. However, the agency also pointed out that because the most advanced artificial intelligence cyber attack technology has not yet been widely popularized, there is still a certain buffer and response space for systemic risks at the current stage.
