On May 19, Google officially announced major adjustments to the Gemini billing and subscription system. Affected by the surge in computing power consumption of large models and agents, Google has officially canceled the original daily fixed number of questions limit and switched to a new "Compute-based" measurement model similar to Microsoft GitHub Copilot.
The new rules will take into account the complexity of the user's prompt words, the functions called (such as video generation, in-depth research, etc.) and the length of the conversation history. The user's computing power quota will be refreshed every 5 hours and has a weekly maximum limit. If a user exhausts the high-end model quota, the system will automatically downgrade it to a lightweight model to ensure uninterrupted service. Users can also choose to purchase additional pay-as-you-go computing power points (AI credits).
Along with the changes in the billing model, Google simultaneously adjusted the pricing and rights of AI members at the 2026 I/O conference. Google has officially launched a new AI Ultra basic plan priced at US$100 per month. It is mainly aimed at developers and technical directors. It provides 5 times higher computing power than the Pro plan and bundles 20TB cloud storage and YouTube Premium benefits. At the same time, the monthly fee for the highest-end AI Ultra flagship version has been reduced from US$250 to US$200, and the computing power limit is 20 times that of standard users. In addition, AI Pro users with a monthly fee of US$20 will receive YouTube Premium Lite service for free, while AI Plus users with a monthly fee of US$8 will have twice the computing power of standard users.
Multi-modal and intelligent agent applications are fully implemented in this adjustment. The newly launched Gemini Omni model focuses on full-modal multimedia creation, supporting one-click application of templates from a single photo or video and conversational iterative editing, while achieving character consistency and sound preservation between scenes in the creative studio Google Flow. Gemini 3.5 Flash models for code and agent development are also fully open to Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers. On the application side, the Gmail AI inbox and Gemini Daily Brief based on intelligent technology are officially launched in the United States, which can automatically sort out the schedule and generate draft replies. The AI digital assistant Gemini Spark for Ultra users will start beta testing in the United States next week, and global users of the $200 AI Ultra will be the first to experience the Project Genie research prototype that can integrate street view technology to build a virtual world.
