As the 2024 U.S. Consumer Electronics Show (CES2024) will open on the 9th of next month, various companies have disclosed new products that will be displayed at the show. Today, LG revealed in a press release its smart home artificial intelligence agents, including robots and multi-modal capabilities. The device is part of the company's "ZeroLaborHome" vision.

The smart home agent adopts a double caster design and can move freely within an area on its own. With multi-modal technology, it can interact with people verbally and express emotions through gestures and movements. These movements are made possible by the robot's articulated leg joints.

In addition, the robot also has voice and image recognition capabilities and can perform natural language processing. This enables it to learn and understand the context of a conversation and respond to the communicator.

LyuJae-Cheol, President of LG Electronics Home Appliances and Air Solutions Company, commented on smart robotic technology:

"Our pioneering smart home AI agent combines cutting-edge autonomous mobility and artificial intelligence technologies with advanced communication capabilities and services to help customers free themselves from household chores. As a smart life solutions company, LG will continue to help customers experience a smarter and more enjoyable home life."

Smart home agents provide users with connectivity and control of smart home devices and home Internet of Things (IoT) devices. According to LG, the robot was built in partnership with Qualcomm Technologies because it has the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 platform.

Therefore, the platform allows the device to implement face recognition and user identification. In addition to this, the home robot is also equipped with various sensors, speakers and built-in cameras. It can also distinguish temperature, humidity and indoor air quality thanks to sensors that collect real-time environmental data.

Artificial intelligence technology will analyze and learn from this data and integrate it with external information. LG added that the robot can also detect pets remotely and notify the owner if anything unusual is detected.

The robot can also notify users of safety or energy-related information. For example, when no one is around, the robot can still roam freely and detect open windows or lights that are on even though no one is in the room.

Additionally, users can choose to connect the robot to a smart outlet, allowing it to turn off unused devices. The robot can also provide users with information on weather conditions and traffic, and remind them to complete their schedules.

The company's news post also highlights that the robot will greet users when they enter their home, recognize their emotions through facial recognition, and then play music that suits their mood, among other things.
