Mini PCs have always been popular among gamers because of their compact size and powerful performance. Steam Machine was originally intended to bring this market segment to the mainstream market, but the configuration was too low and too expensive to be able to do this task.

AMD engineers build Steam Machine-style mini PC equipped with RTX 5060 graphics card

However, some gamers are building their own mini PCs that are more powerful but still meet the need for a compact body. An AMD engineer built a Mini-ITX mini computer and stuffed a complete RTX 5060 graphics card into a 3D printed casing. But its appearance is exactly the same as the Steam console.

The appearance of this device is somewhat similar to the Steam Machine, but according to Jacob, its performance should be stronger when running AAA games. However, as of now, the engineer has not announced any game performance test results.

Terk Box v1.1 is equipped with a 400W Flex power supply, which is lower than the officially recommended power consumption requirement of 550W for the RTX 5060.

In this regard, Jacob explained: "When you really understand how these hardware work, the official recommended configuration is actually more like a recommended configuration."

He also said that actual power consumption will be affected by many factors such as CPU, GPU, power consumption limit settings, and power quality. Therefore, the officially recommended power supply specifications do not mean that every configuration must strictly meet this requirement.

However, the cost of building Terk Box v1.1 is still controlled at about $1,000. But if you don’t have old computer hardware to reuse, or can’t buy discounted accessories that are cost-effective enough, the actual cost may be much higher.
