The company behind NordVPN is launching a global eSIM service called Saily. It will offer eSIM cards to all users regardless of carrier, provided their smartphone supports the feature.
The service is still in beta, and you can sign up to get early access. The app will officially launch later this year.
According to Vykintas Maknickas, head of product strategy at NordSecurity, Saily will ensure users don't have to use public Wi-Fi networks they're not used to. Users can choose from "hundreds of countries and dozens of plans" to get discounted mobile data.
eSIM cards are mainly used by travelers and remote workers to reduce roaming charges. According to NordSecurity, some people need cheap data plans in their home countries after running out of prepaid plans.
The new Saily app will compete with Airalo, which has more than 5 million downloads on Google Play and the App Store. It provides virtual SIM cards to all regions around the world and offers data plans at very competitive prices. It's also very convenient to buy a SIM card in a new country without having to use a foreign language and a different currency.
